But really it’s my aunt’s recipe.
Ingredients
3 to 4 Gala apples or any other you love to bake with (buy 4 but you may only need 3)
1 cup of flour (gluten-free works)
1 cup + 1 Tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1 egg
1 bar of unsalted butter, melted
Grease an 11” pie dish or pyrex Peel and slice the apples. Toss them with 1 Tablespoon of sugar, and if you like (and want) add some cinnamon. I usually don’t with this particular crisp.
In a bowl mix the flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder. In a small bowl beat the egg and when it is completely homogeneous add it to the flour mixture. Then mix and mix and mix with a fork until the flour mixture becomes chunky crumbs. About 5 minutes.
Top the apples with the crumb. At this point you can keep it covered in the fridge for a day (or less), until you a ready to bake it.
When you are ready to bake it preheat to 350º and melt the butter. Pour the butter evenly over the crisp and bake it until golden and bubbly. Approximately 30 minutes.
